  •  Arcadis partnered with The Ocean Cleanup to provide Project Management, Stakeholder Management Services and an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) as part of their global InterceptorTM project.
  • They plan to tackle 1000 rivers around the world with the help of the InterceptorTM, and aim to halt 80% of plastic from entering the oceans in five years’ time.

Arcadis was involved in the assembly, installation and commissioning of the InterceptorTM for the “Pilot Project- River Plastic Interception” in the Klang river, Malaysia. The project was led by the Arcadis Malaysia team who provided Project Management support and Stakeholder Management services and collaborated with Arcadis Singapore team in providing a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report.

The Klang river is the biggest contributing river to plastic emission in the ocean in Malaysia. With around 6,537 tonnes/year (2017), it contains the plastic waste coming from large cities such as Kuala Lumpur and Klang. Roughly 1.15 to 2.41 million tonnes of plastic are entering through the course of rivers on a yearly basis. Reducing plastic waste pollution must be coupled with cleaning up the plastic already in our oceans,

Arcadis have been engaged in numerous programs to reduce plastic waste including a business blueprint for other business to assess and reduce their plastic waste production, supporting many multinationals with the behaviour change needed to lower their impact on society.
